Danielle Stuckle, President - Stuckle is the director of the Dickinson Museum Center, and the Historic Preservationist for the city of Dickinson, ND. She has been working in museums, archives, and libraries for more than nine years. Stuckle currently serves on the boards for Museums in North Dakota (MiND) and the state's Preservation Review Board. She served on a historic preservation review commission in Farmington, MN. Stuckle has a master's degree in history from NDSU, and she currently teaches North Dakota history at Dickinson State University.

Suzzanne Kelley, Vice President - Kelley Graduated with History Masters from University of Central Oklahoma. She is completing her PHD in History at NDSU. Presently teaching for Minnesota State Community and Technical College and NDSU. Kelley is involved in historic preservation, and was part of the Ladbury Church Demonstration Project for PND. She is a freelance editor. Member of the National Council on Public History. Co-coordinator for the Rural and Agricultural Studies Section of the Western Social Science Association. Kelley also manages the website for Phi Alpha Theta, the NDSU History Honors Society.

Melanie Thornberg, Secretary - A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, MN with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Cum Laude, with Majors in English and Education. Thornberg is an Interpretive Guide at the Gingras Trading Post Historic Site and a substitute teacher. Executive Committee Member of the North Dakota Humanities Council, and North Dakota Farmers' Market and Growers Association. Former Executive Director of the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce and the Northwest Broadcast News Association. Former member of the Heart of North America Trail - Phase One Task Force and the North Dakota Nature and Rural Tourism Association. She is married to Bob Thornberg and they have five children and one grandchild. Thornberg enjoys skiing and traveling.

Becky Leonard, Treasurer - Owner of Rolette County Abstract, Inc.. Leonard graduated from Valley City State University. She has been employed in the real estate title industry since 1982. Leonard has served in numerous volunteer positions, including: member of the Board of Directors for Preservation North Dakota, the St. John Economic Development Director; member of the Board of Directors - Rolette County Historical Society; and a variety of regional and local boards. She and husband Larry have two kids Larissa and William, living on a 5th generation family farm east of the International Peace Garden on the Turtle Mountain Scenic Byway.

Lauren Donovan - Donovan is a native of Mott and a University of North Dakota journalism graduate. She has lived in Hazen since 1981, where for 16 years she was editor of the Hazen Star weekly newspaper and for the past 10 has worked as a regional reporter for the Bismarck Tribune. She and her husband, Patrick, have three children. Lauren's work takes her on the region's back roads and byways, where she meets many North Dakotans and has the opportunity to view and record history and history in the making. Her interests involve outdoor recreation and sports, reading and writing.

Ann Erling - Erling is a native of Bismarck, ND and is in her third year of college at North Dakota State University. She recently transferred to NDSU where she is studying history and English. She is currently employed with the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection where she is an archival assistant, and assists with such tasks as processing collections and editing manuscripts. During the summer of 2007 Erling was selected for the Dakota Datebook internship with the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Through this internship, she was able to assist with the research and writing for this feature of Prairie Public Radio and continues to write for the Dakota Datebook series. Erling has a passion for history, and also enjoys writing, photography, and travel.

Cher Hersrud - Director, The Resource Center, Fargo, ND. Hersrud has worked in the nonprofit sector for twenty years. She has received two Aspen Institute Fellowships for research on issues affecting North Dakota nonprofits and has written several publications offering technical assistance to rural nonprofits and rural communities. Hersrud is Director of The Resource Center, a division of the ND Community Foundation that works to strengthen North Dakota's nonprofit organizations and rural communities.

Dr. Tom Isern - Professor of History at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. Isern's academic specialty is the history and folklore of the Great Plains of North America, with particular interest in farming, ranching, and rural life on the plains. He is the author or co-author of six books and of the weekly newspaper and radio feature, Plains Folk. His CD release, Candles at Canaan: Signs of Life in a Lonesome Land (Prairie Public, 2006) is a collection of audio essays on the subject of regional renewal.

Donovan Larson - Larson is with ICON Architectural Group as a designer and project manager. Originally from Grand Forks, Donovan has gained experience in Architecture and several trades of construction with companies in Fargo and Grand Forks. Working for himself and/or other firms he has been involved with planning, development, design, construction, and project management for the past 17 years. Larson received a B.A. in Architecture from North Dakota State University, attended Yestermorrow Design Build School in Warren, Vermont and recently completed Preservation Leadership Training through the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects and a Governors Trustee for the State Historical Society of North Dakota. He received a 1997 – AIA, ND Special Recognition Award for β€œRe-Imaging Downtown Greater Grand Forks, ND.”

Alfred Jason Lindell - owner, Sun Dog Glass Design, Park River, ND. A native North Dakotan, his work is intrinsically tied to the prairie landscape. In 2002, he returned to his hometown of Park River and purchased a 1920 Greco-Roman designed church building, renovating it into a living space and a studio of traditional leaded glass fabrication and restoration. Fascinated by the possibility of design, he taught himself the art of fusing. He is currently ND's only professional fuser. Lindell is a founding member and Vice-Chair of New Bohemia and a governor appointed board member of the North Dakota Council on the Arts until 2010.

Rod Merkel - Merkel is the Director of the Dunn County Historical Society Museum in Dunn Center. He grew up on a farm in the small community of Forbes, and has lived in North Dakota all his life. Merkel has traveled the state extensively from Wahalla to Williston and from Bowman to Wahpeton, and enjoys visiting with ND's local community historians. He and his wife Carol, have three children - two sons, Riley and Tyler, and a daughter Mandy. Merkel graduated from Dickinson State University with honors, and holds a BS in History Education and a North Dakota Teachers Certificate. He worked at the Dickinson Museum Center, and has worked on the Hutmacher Farm restoration project. His hobbies include hiking, working outdoors, hunting and traveling.

Janinne Paulson - Paulson is a licensed social worker for Mountrail County. Originally from Page, she brings a lifelong amateur interest in history, architecture and old buildings. When PND assisted a Stanley group in saving its former Presbyterian Church from demolition, she found an avenue for involvement in historic preservation. The church is now the Sibyl Center, a venue for the arts, where Paulson serves on the board.

Marilu Person - Self employed agricultural consultant, M.S. in Soil Science and B.S. in Horticulture from NDSU. Certified Professional Agronomist, member of American Society of Agronomy, member of Agricultural Consultants Association of North Dakota. Person volunteers as curator of Traill County Historical Society's museums in Hillsboro and is on their Board of Directors. She is Secretary/Treasurer of Hillsboro Community Partnership, which is restoring the Union Block in Hillsboro, and a member of Preservation North Dakota.

Susan Quinnell - Review and Compliance Coordinator for the North Dakota State Historic Preservation Office (ND SHPO), State Historical Society of North Dakota. Quinnell reviews over 1,200 construction and other projects a year and evaluates any impact they may have on historical or architectural resources in the state. Prior to 2006, she operated the Architectural Preservation Institute at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, giving workshops statewide for the historic preservation community. She hold an MA in history and an MS in Construction Management with Historic Preservation emphasis. She enjoys gardening and fixing up old buildings.

Jeanette Robb-Ruenz - Retired Teacher, President of O.P.E.R.A. incorporated, Secretary of the Ellendale Historical Society, President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Vice President of the Whitestone Hill Battlefield Historical Society, Curator of the Coleman Memorial Museum

Mae Streich - Bottineau County Auditor, Secretary of the Turtle Mountain Tourism Association, Committee member of ND Turtle Mountain Scenic Byway Hwy 43, Past Department of ND VFW Ladies Auxiliary President, Past President of the North Dakota County Auditor's Association. Recipient of the North Dakota Association of Counties Excellence in County Government Elected County Official Award, ND Community Leadership Award from the Greater North Dakota Association for Outstanding Community Service and Leadership and Lifetime Service Award from the Bottineau Jaycees.



Mary Humstone - Private Historic Preservation Consultant, Former Assistant Director of the Mountains Plains office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Fullbright Scholarship recipient spending time in Japan. One of the founders of the nation wide Barn Again! program.

Jim Lindberg - Director of Preservation Initiatives, Mountains/Plains Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Denver, CO. Since, 1991, he has helped the Trust strengthen statewide and local organizations, save historic places in an eight state region, and establish statewide Main Street programs in NE and CO. In 2002, Lindberg co-authored, Protecting America's Historic Neighborhoods: Taming the Teardown Trend.

Merlan E. Paaverud Jr. - Director, State Historical Society of ND, Bismarck, ND. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1972. Paaverud was Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer and Director of the Society's Historic Preservation Division, which includes the State Historic Sites. He was the agency's Grants and Contracts Officer from 1987 to 1988, and Site Supervisor at Fort Totten near Devils Lake, ND from 1983 to 1987. From 1988 to 1991, he worked in the Office of Inter-governmental Assistance, now the Division of Community Services.



Kevin Carvell - Carvell recently retired after more than two decades as district director for U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan. Prior to that, he taught journalism at the University of North Dakota and was on the editorial staff of The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead. He is an Army veteran, member of the North Dakota Historical Society and the Fargo-Moorhead Heritage Society.

Rep. Mary Ekstrom - State Representative from Cass County District #11, Owner of Ekstrom and Associates Architects and Planners, Presidential Design Award 1989, BLLD Fellow 2001.

Deborah Olson Frederickson - A graduate of North Dakota State University and employed at MeritCare Medical Center, she is a past board member of Friends of the Opera, a sustaining member of Fine Arts Club, a long-time member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and a current board member of the Hawthorne Neighborhood Association where she served as principal investigator for the Island Park historic overlay/design standard project. Seeing many of the architectural landmarks of Fargo succumb to the wrecking ball, Frederickson, a lifelong resident, found she had no choice but to be a preservationist. She is proud of her 2005 Preservation North Dakota Bentley Award for Volunteer of the Year. She and her husband Neil, live in the Lars Christianson House, one of the first homes built in the Charles Roberts Addition to Fargo. Her hobbies include: decorating, gardening, and listening to opera.

Dr. Paul Gleye - Department Chair of the Architecture and Landscape Architecture Department at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. Chair of the Fargo Historic Preservation Commission, Former member of the State Historic Preservation Review Board, Bismarck, ND.

Donald S. Haugen - Partner and CPA with the accounting firm Eide Bailly, LLP, President of the State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation, ND Advisor to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Treasurer YMCA Foundation.

Steve Martens - Associate Professor teaching in the Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. Martens a registered architect for over 20-years specializes in historic preservation research, building conservation and architectural preservation. Co-Author of the book Buildings of North Dakota.

Bobbi Hepper Olson, AIA - Hepper Olson Architects, Grand Forks, ND. Prior to becoming owner and the principal architect in Hepper Olson Architect, Ltd., Bobbi received her Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and Environmental Design and a Minor in Landscape Architecture from NDSU-Fargo in 1991. Raised in Southwestern North Dakota, Bobbi has worked on numerous rehabilitation and renovation projects in a wide geographic area within North Dakota, Western Minnesota, and South Dakota. She is currently President of Buxton In Bloom, a non-profit entity formed to rehabilitate an 1890s granite bank building on the main street of Buxton, ND. As a resident of Buxton, Bobbi also serves on the Traill County Planning Commission, Buxton City Building Committee, and is a member of the Preservation North Dakota Advisory Council.

Dorothy Pearson - Cook and Dietary Aid at Southwest Healthcare Services Long-term Care Facility, Bowman, ND. Volunteer at the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum, Collections Manager and Museum Store, member of the ND State Genealogical Society, President of Museums In North Dakota, helped compile the Slope County History book, Slope Saga.

Sarah Vogel - Sarah Vogal Law Firm, P.C., Bismarck, ND. Vogel served as ND Commissioner of Agriculture from 1989-1996. She was co-founder of Marketplace of Ideas, the nation's largest rural development conference. She also served as the Assistant Attorney General of ND, during which time she was selected by the American Bar Association as one of the twenty young attorney's whose work made a difference to the county. She was counsel for the State Historical Society of ND and she worked on the case, which helped save the historic Stutsman County Courthouse, the oldest courthouse in the state.

Gary Wolberg - Wolberg atended law school at the University of North Dakota. He is an attorney with the law firm Fleck, Mather and Strutz in Bismarck, ND.
